The Lake

The lake,
Withholder of the world’s abundance,
Everything it unveils to the naked eye of man is
ever so vast, ever so enigmatic.
Like the blurry image of foliage in the distance,
Reflections on the water.

So sensitive.
Even the gentlest touch, to the lightest breeze,
Can incite the lake to create its most beauteous art.
Every stroke, so unique,
Ripples on the water.

In the middle of the lake poised a full-fledged swan,
its ruffled black feathers gleaming in the sunlight.
Adding yet another stroke of art,
Tranquility of the serene lake.
The master piece is now complete.

I was inspired by the theme Man and Nature, specifically William Wordsworth’s poems. I think that his poems are very descriptive of nature’s beauty. An example of a poem of his which I was inspired by is Daffodils, which greatly magnified the beauty of simple, delicate flowers. Through my poem, I also wanted to portray the beauty of the swan lake in the botanic gardens, and the kind of peace it can bring to one’s soul. This is a form of appreciating nature, and my poem is also describing the process of creating an art piece, the Lake.
