A Haiku

Threadbare, shivering

Hoping to touch the heavens

Their very last hope

This picture is of a tree that has lost all its leaves, leaving nothing but threadbare branches. What first struck me was the sinister silhouette of the dead-looking tree against the sky, giving it an overall eerie look. Then it occurred to me that trees were not meant to be this way. Who else, besides Man, had devastated the environment without a care, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake? Who else, besides Man, had the power to do everything, yet did nothing? Who else, besides Man, could be responsible? This was what compelled me to post this thought-provoking photograph. It is time that we faced up to the consequences of our actions, lest every tree on the planet ends up like this one.

Homo sapiens are the most intelligent beings on this planet, which is why the die of responsibility for conserving the planet rolls to us.
